The Origin Of The Ascent
From the Birthplace of Aviation to the frontiers of digital experience.
Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio—a city founded on April 1st and known worldwide as the "Birthplace of Aviation." Growing up in the shadow of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the Wild Blue Yonder became a part of my atmosphere. Experiencing a childhood which was backdropped by the hum of aerospace research and the legacy and innovation of the Wright Brothers.
But Dayton’s DNA is also defined by the mechanical precision of NCR. Long before the Silicon Valley boom, Dayton was the epicenter of The Cash Register—the original interface of global commerce. Living in the Gem City, I was surrounded by a spirit of relentless innovation, where whether you were engineering a 1905 Flyer or perfecting the logic of a mechanical tabulator, the details were everything.
My design sensibilities are rooted in the high-contrast energy of the 70s and 80s—a formative era where the raw, hand-drawn soul of skateboard art met the precision of aerospace engineering. I was captivated by the neon glow of early Atari and Nintendo pixels and the larger-than-life storytelling of 80s blockbusters—cultural milestones that proved even technology could have a pulse. To me, these weren't just electronics or entertainment; they were gestures inscribed in the landscape of a generation.
To turn that passion into a craft, I attended The Ohio State University. Under the tutelage of design legends like Noel Mayo, Charles Walshlegger, and Reinhart Butter, I moved beyond the "what" of design and into the "why." They taught me that design is a rigorous discipline—a fusion of engineering and art.
Today, my practice is a continuation of that Dayton-born spirit. I have dedicated my career to a relentless, meticulous pursuit of quality. Whether I am architecting a complex digital ecosystem or exploring the tactile honesty of a silk-screen print, I’m always searching for that perfect line of flight—ensuring that every project is a successful ascent.
